Maylene and the Sons of Disaster Announce Release Date for 'IV'

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster will release their long-awaited new album 'Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: IV' on September 27 via Ferret Music. The new collection was produced by Brian Virtue [Jane's Addiction, Deftones] and promises to shine a spotlight on the celebrated band's sleek songcraft and virtuosic prowess.

"As humans, we play things so safe and everything "makes sense" or is "figured out" and is how it's supposed to be," said vocalist Dallas Taylor of the upcoming album. "I hope it will make people question their lives and how they do things, and make people realize what they have. It is definitely a new band now with a new drive. This is the most serious thing we've ever done and the most grown-up record I've ever made in my life. I think it will surprise a lot of people who were into Maylene before. It is a very dark record, but it's the most truthful and heartfelt thing I have done in my life.

The striking cover art for 'Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: IV' was designed by Forefathers Group [Children of Bodom, In Flames, Between the Buried and Me]. On the record, the band continues its focused conceptual and lyrical bent which plots MAYLENE as renegade outlaws from a 1920's gangster / prohibition era real-life crime family. The record's gritty musical shootouts are filled with intricate guitar riffing and whiskey drenched grooves, while the lyrics take your imagination back to a time when the exploits of gangs of criminals gripped the American people and press.

The track listing for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: IV is as follows:

01.) In Dead We Dream
02.) Save Me
03.) Faith Healer (Bring Me Down)
04.) Open Your Eyes
05.) Killing Me Slow
06.) Taking on Water
07.) Fate Games
08.) Come for You
09.) Never Enough
10.) Cat's Walk
11.) Drought of '85
12.) Off to the Laughing Place

SLASH's 'Homecoming' Concert Filmed For DVD Release

Slash's (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES) "homecoming" gig on July 24 at the Victoria Hall in Stoke-on-Trent — the town where Slash was raised — was filmed for a DVD release, tentatively due in October.

"I've been wanting to do this for a long time and for some reason it just never seemed possible," said Slash.

"One of the things about doing the solo record and setting up my own tour was that I told the powers-that-be that I wanted to play in places I'd never played before. And so Stoke was something that was high on my list and I told them just make it happen."

Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, left Stoke-on-Trent when he was five years old. But he said he still had "vivid memories" of the city.

"I have memories that I went to school there, of the basic neighbourhood that I lived in. I remember exactly what the house looked like. Just everything in general, for some reason my memory is really clear. Better than my memory of later years."

The Stoke-on-Trent concert sold out in less than two hours after tickets went on sale on May 6.

Over 1,500 fans attended the show, which marked Slash's first-ever concert in his hometown.

David Bradbury, Group Press Officer of the Ambassador Theatre Group, told StaffsLive, "We always knew the gig was going to be popular and the fact that the gig sold out in less than two hours is brilliant.

"Slash is a local hero, he's from Stoke-on-Trent and not a lot of people know that. I think he lived here until he was 11 so this is a bit of a homecoming gig."

Slash stated after the concert: "Stoke was a [fuckin'] blast!! Great vibe and energy. It's going to make a killer DVD. We'll be back next year definitely!"

Slash's setlist was as follows:

01. Been There Lately (SLASH'S SNAKEPIT song)
02. Nightrain (GUNS N' ROSES song)
03. Ghost
04. Mean Bone (SLASH'S SNAKEPIT song)
05. Back From Cali
06. Rocket Queen (GUNS N' ROSES song)
07. Civil War (GUNS N' ROSES song)
08. Nothing To Say
09. Promise
10. Starlight
11. Doctor Alibi (with Todd Kerns on vocals)
12. Speed Parade (SLASH'S SNAKEPIT song)
13. Watch This
14. Beggars & Hangers-On (SLASH'S SNAKEPIT song)
15. Patience (GUNS N' ROSES song)
16. Guitar Solo / Godfather Theme
17. Sweet Child O' Mine (GUNS N' ROSES song)
18. Slither (VELVET REVOLVER song)

Encore:

19. By The Sword
20. Mr. Brownstone (GUNS N' ROSES song)
21. Paradise City (GUNS N' ROSES song)

Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Although Myles Kennedy sang just two tracks on Slash's self-titled solo debut, Slash recently confirmed that Myles will sing everything on the guitarist's next solo effort.

Speaking to Nicky Horne, he revealed, "Myles and I have been writing all throughout the tour so we've got a lot of material, and at this point we're probably gonna start a little bit of pre-production in June and then do the tour in July. In September we're going to [do more] pre-production and the album is slated to come out in March or April."

In a recent interview with The Pulse Of Radio, Kennedy said about the fact that Slash would like him to handle the lead vocals on the guitarist's next CD, "It's very flattering. I think there's kind of a cool thing we got going. We really enjoy working with each other. I know they're auditioning singers now for VELVET REVOLVER, so I don't know if they find the right guy if that'll affect things timing-wise. I'm not really sure. But the plan right now is that yeah, we'll do a record together down the road."

Slash's debut disc came out last year and featured a different singer on each track, including Chris Cornell, Ozzy Osbourne, M. Shadows and others.

IRON MAIDEN: Pictorial Preview Of 'On Board Flight 666' Book At BRITISH MUSIC EXPERIENCE

British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN round off their "The Final Frontier World Tour" at London, England's O2 Arena on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6.

As most fans know, MAIDEN's official photographer, John McMurtrie, travelled with the band on board their Boeing 757 jet named Ed Force One from January 2008, capturing on camera not only the five continents visited on the "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" but also the "Round The World In 66 Days" leg of "The Final Frontier World Tour" earlier this year. This extensive coverage will be made available later this year as a photographic book, entitled "On Board Flight 666". Published by Orion Books, it will feature hundreds of stunning photos with explanatory text, giving an exclusive, behind-the-scenes pictorial documentation of both tours.

To celebrate IRON MAIDEN's appearance at the O2, the British Music Experience (located at the O2 Bubble) will be offering, for a limited period only, the opportunity to view a specially selected sample of prints from the book in an intimate setting within the British Music Experience.

This unique presentation starts on Friday, August 5 to coincide with IRON MAIDEN's first show at the O2 so if you're going to the concert, why not come down early and grab a sneak preview during the day? Big Eddie from "Somewhere Back In Time" will be there at the entrance of the museum to greet you.

Entry to the photographic preview is included in general admission to the British Music Experience, and John McMurtrie himself hopes to be present during the first two days of the showing. As an added bonus, IRON MAIDEN fan-club members will have access to an exclusive discount voucher allowing them and two guests to get into the British Music Experience for just £5 each (usual price £12) for the days of the IRON MAIDEN shows.

A pessoa errada no lugar errado

Hora errada, lugar errado, banda errada.

A segunda banda do dia é o Queensryche.

Sexo? Troque de cabeleireiro, queridinho... Próximo!

Chegou a melhor banda do festival.

Back In Black", "Let There Be Rock". A festa termina com "For Those About To Rock", é claro... e os canhões entram em ação.

Menos chuva. Até 92.

Saxon: Call to Arms será lançado no Brasil via Hellion Records

Call To Arms representa a culminação desse período e o retorno há 20 anos antes disso. Eu amo as músicas.

A versão nacional será lançada no formato duplo incluindo como bônus o CD Live At Donington 1980. A edição será limitada em mil cópias.

Ex-HELLOWEEN Singer MICHAEL KISKE Talks Influences, Vocal Technique In New Video Interview

Marko Osterholz of Rockvoice HQ recently conducted an interview with former HELLOWEEN and current UNISONIC vocalist Michael Kiske. You can now watch the chat below.

In addition to Kiske, UNISONIC's current lineup includes Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY, ex-HELLOWEEN), Dennis Ward (bass) and Kosta Zafiriou (drums) of Germany's PINK CREAM 69 and Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer (who has previously played with ASIA, GOTTHARD and KROKUS).

UNISONIC is:

Michael Kiske (vocals)
Mandy Meyer (guitar)
Kai Hansen (guitar)
Dennis Ward (bass)
Kosta Zafiriou (drums)

Having split with HELLOWEEN in late 1993, Kiske participated in various projects and released several solo albums but had not been part of a real group effort until now.

While collaborating with Ward and Zafiriou on the PLACE VENDOME project five years ago, Kiske found two musical soulmates. They ended up recording two PLACE VENDOME albums before deciding to join forces in a new brand new band. Ward, who had previously produced a record for KROKUS, suggested Meyer as the perfect addition to the group in the vacant guitarist slot.

Kiske, one of the finest and most unique voices in contemporary rock music, explains his motivation of becoming a part of a band again: "Since the PLACE VENDOME productions I was impressed by Dennis Ward's skills as a songwriter and producer. We were occasionally fooling around since then via email that we should do more together in the future, so the idea came up to do a new band. I was generally getting a bit tired of doing everything on my own for so many years, so it just felt like the right thing to do now. We can all only benefit from working together. No matter how good you are solo, four people will always be better than one, I think, if they manage to function together. And a real band is also a very good reason to finally go on tour again."

New SOUNDGARDEN Album Due In Early 2012

Guitarist Kim Thayil of reunited grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN spoke to Hannah Levin of SeattleWeekly.com about the progress of the band's new CD, its first since 1996's "Down On The Upside" and since reuniting last year.

When asked what the timeline on the new record is, Thayil replied, "There's no timeline, except that our target — roughly — is early 2012. We are focused on this tour and these shows and we have a few dates in October, but in the interim, we'll do some studio work. We have a few more guitars to do and some vocals. And some of the songs are still being arranged. We want to make sure it's absolutely the most satisfying for us, and put the best foot forward that we can put. I would assume our fans will also get into it then."

Regarding whether SOUNDGARDEN's approach to writing together has changed, Thayil said, "It's actually not much different, because we really didn't have a set way we wrote in the past. The only thing that might have been consistent is a band member being a complete author — meaning words and music — which Chris [Cornell, vocals/guitar] did a lot of. But even if Chris writes a complete song, or Ben [Shepherd, bass] writes a complete song . . . sometimes we wrote a song as a jam. All the different combinations were always there; there was never a set thing like 'Jagger/Richards,' you know?"

On the topic of why SOUNDGARDEN chose to get back together, Thayil said, "I have nooooo idea. I ask myself that question. I think it's one of those things that just fell back into our laps. We initially were attending to shared properties, both financial and legal, and from mainly there we realized there was an absence of online presence in terms of a web site or Facebook . . . we kind of had neglected our merchandise over the last decade. Our catalog had been neglected. I was constantly meeting people who now had junior-high-aged kids who had learned instruments and learned [to play via SOUNDGARDEN]. We agreed to start a web site and have Ten Club handle it — Tim Bierman who handles PEARL JAM's stuff. So it started from that. Then Internet gossip led to promoters inquiring about our status and offering us shows and pretty good billings that we considered. So we got into a room together and jammed and enjoyed each other's company. Eventually we decided to start playing live and to release [greatest-hits and rarities compilation] 'Telephantasm' and the live record ['Live on I-5']. Putting out an unreleased SOUNDGARDEN song was a thrill for us, and we started thinking about going back into the studio again. Every time we got together to rehearse, it was good."

SLAYER's DAVE LOMBARDO Interviewed By DRUMMER Magazine (Video)

Joel McIver of Drummer magazine conducted an interview with SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo at the U.K. installment of the Sonisphere festival, which was held July 8-10, 2011 at Knebworth House. You can now watch the chat below.

Lombardo is a Cuban-American heavy metal drummer best known for his work with American thrash metal band SLAYER. Lombardo's music career has spanned more than 30 years, during which he has been involved in the production of more than 30 commercial recordings spanning a number of major genres with bands such as GRIP INC., FANTÔMAS, and TESTAMENT in addition to SLAYER.

Lombardo's musical interest was sparked by playing along to a SANTANA record with bongo drums and was later influenced by the musical styles of LED ZEPPELIN and KISS.

Lombardo is known as an aggressive heavy metal drummer and his use of the drums have been called "astonishingly innovative" and earned him the title "the godfather of metal double bass" from Drummer World. Over his career, he has had a significant influence on the metal scene, and has inspired many modern metal drummers.

E houve algum outro problema?

Mr. Big's Billy Sheehan Talks Japan and Their Upcoming US Tour

"There's always a little bit of pressure when we play in Los Angeles since it's our home base, but I think we pulled it off that night," says Billy Sheehan. The Mr. Big bassist is on the phone with Noisecreep talking about their April 2nd show at the House of Blues in Hollywood. It was their first show on American soil in 15 years. "It was completely sold out and the energy the crowd gave off was incredible. It was the first show of our tour and sometimes you expect things to go wrong, but outside of a bass drum pedal breaking, we did OK," says a laughing Sheehan.

Mr. Big is out promoting their seventh studio album, 'What If...' It's their first record since 1996 featuring their original lineup of Sheehan, Paul Gilbert [guitars], Pat Torpey [drums], and Eric Martin [vocals]. "After that Los Angeles show, we headed to Japan and it was a breeze. Logistically speaking, it was kind of tough to get around, but we made it work. I think we were one of the only bands that didn't cancel our shows there after the tragedy happened. Our fans were really appreciative of that and we got a lot of great emails and feedback from them. We even got a letter from the Japanese consulate in Washington thanking us for helping to raise the spirits there. I'm also proud that we were able to raise over $100,000 for the earthquake relief efforts."

While many bands claim to be big in Japan, few can actually sellout arenas from one end of the country to the other. Mr. Big are rock royalty in the land of the rising sun. "The Japanese fans have always been so great to us and we felt like we owed it to them to do anything we could to help. During the shows we played there, we included a moment in the set where we brought things down a bit and played some more inspirational type of songs.

"We wrote a song called 'The World is on the Way' that was for the earthquake relief and played that. Another song we played during that set was 'Carry On' from Crosby, Stills & Nash. I explained to the crowd that when that song was written in the '60s, America was going through a lot of social turmoil, but we knew that we would get through it. There wasn't a dry eye in the house," says Sheehan.

Sheehan and his Mr. Big cohorts will be launching a full scale tour of the US this weekend. "After Japan we headed to China, Korea, Philippines, Europe, and then South America. Everything went great on those trips. But we're glad to be back in the States and play these cities that we haven't been back to in years."

“Ele me deixou doido”, disse Lord. ”

Former BLACK SABBATH Singer TONY MARTIN Says 'Forbidden' Album 'Didn't Really Work'

Peter Hodgson of Gibson.com recently conducted an interview with former BLACK SABBATH singer Tony Martin. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Gibson.com: What are your proudest individual BLACK SABBATH lyrical and vocal moments? "Cross Purposes", in particular, is an album that I find myself listening to for the lyrics just as much as for the songs and performances.

Tony Martin: Yeah. I can see why you may pick up on that one. I was gettin' a bit more real with lyrics instead of historical. But I actually invented some words, and to this day, only one person has found them and questioned me about them. I challenge anyone to find them, but everyone sings them. It's those things that I find really interesting.

Gibson.com: How did you feel about your work on [BLACK SABBATH's] "Forbidden"?

Tony Martin: Well, "Forbidden" is… I want to say "crap," but it's actually not. The songs worked really well in rehearsals, and then things started to get political, and I got wind of an Ozzy reunion [with SABBATH] — not from SABBATH directly, of course. But before that came, there was a meeting at the SABBATH offices in London to which we were summoned to discuss the possibility of doing a RUN-D.M.C. type of album. I thought it wouldn't work, and voiced that. Cozy Powell [late BLACK SABBATH drummer] thought it wouldn't work. I was never sure that most of the others were convinced, but we were kinda steered into a "rap SABBATH" album. Then I was told that [rapper] Ice-T was gonna be doing it and they couldn't or wouldn't tell me if he was doing the whole thing or just one track... and I still didn't know the answer to that when I was in the studio singing the tracks. They said they were gonna take it and see what Ice-T wanted to do. So it has a distinct ill feeling about it. The album eventually didn't really work, although some fans love it. And it was the penultimate album to my being removed from the band, the last album to be released being "Sabbath Stones", a compilation album, which kept my name in the band to span 10 years and six albums.

Gibson.com: How is your new project with bassist Magnus Rosén (HAMMERFALL), guitarist Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND) and drummer Danny "Danté" Needham (VENOM, TONY MARTIN) going? What's it sound like? Will you tour?

Tony Martin: Well, we are all doing individual projects and other things right now. We are talking often about how we progress, but until we have finished our current projects, we can't really get it on the road. The plan is to release the music in a controlled way that will be different to the normal record-label release. We have two songs written that sound very unique and we are excited about those. It's very accessible dark rock.

Packed with never-before-seen BLACK SABBATH footage and recent solo tour clips, fans are set to enjoy an incredibly unique experience, by director/filmmaker and son of the Prince of Darkness himself, Jack Osbourne. Fellow musicians such as Paul McCartney, Tommy Lee and others will also share stories, while an exclusive interview with the Osbourne family explains why bringing Ozzy's storied history to life — through the eyes of his son Jack — was the perfect motivation to capture one of music’s greatest icons in candid splendor.

Don’t miss your chance to see this two-night event on the big screen.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Monday, August 1.

"God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" was co-produced by Jack Osbourne and is the first film released by Jack's production company, Jacko Productions. The documentary, which was originally titled "Wreckage Of My Past: The Ozzy Osbourne Story", was directed by Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli.

"God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" premiered on April 24 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and received a positive review from Entertainment Weekly, which said, "What could have been a glossy, fawning tribute to the most visible face in heavy metal music history — especially considering it was co-produced by his son, Jack — actually turned out to be a remarkably evenhanded look at Ozzy's monumental musical influence as well as his less exemplary life as an addict and often-absent father."

Critic Joseph Brannigan Lynch added, "'God Bless Ozzy Osbourne' may not answer the question 'What makes Ozzy act so... Ozzy-like?', but it's hardly a fluffy tribute. This documentary succeeds in offering a balanced portrait of a man who made many mistakes over the course of his addiction-riddled life and also happens to be one of the most influential hard rock singers ever."

Lynch also wrote that the film "starts with Osbourne's poor childhood in the cramped quarters of inner-city Birmingham, England, and goes up to his long-sought sobriety following the end of the water-cooler fodder reality series 'The Osbournes'."

While the movie does not delve into certain aspects of Ozzy's life — such as his attempted strangulation of wife/manager Sharon years ago — frank interviews with his five children "portray him as an absentee father even when he was physically present due to his mind-numbing abuse of pills, cocaine and liquor," according to Lynch.

The film features interviews with many of Ozzy's family members, friend and colleagues, including Paul McCartney, the members of BLACK SABBATH and MÖTLEY CRÜE's Tommy Lee.

SEPULTURA, ANTHRAX Members Perform 'Refuse/Resist' At Holland's ZWARTE CROSS (Video) - July 28, 2011

Fan-filmed video footage of members of SEPULTURA and ANTHRAX performing the SEPULTURA classic "Refuse/Resist" at the Zwarte Cross (Black Cross) festival, which was held July 15-17, 2011 in Lichtenvoorde, Holland, can be seen below.

SEPULTURA's Andreas Kisser filled in for ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian at 11 shows in July while Ian spent time with his family following the birth of his first child.

Kisser made his live debut with ANTHRAX on July 2 at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany as part of a "Big Four" show with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH.

In a letter addressed to Andreas on ANTHRAX's official Facebook page, the band wrote, "Words cannot express the feeling of love we have for you. From the first day, you were a part of the family. You were the only choice to fill in for Scott and that decision proved to be the right one. Thank you for being you, we miss you already. Have a great tour with the mighty SEPULTURA."

Speaking to RockAAA at the U.K. installment of the Sonisphere festival, Andreas stated about what it was like to receive the call asking him to fill in for Ian, "It was amazing. ANTHRAX… I mean, all the four bands here [METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX] are the DNA of my guitar playing. I started listening to them, the heavier music, and I wanted to play the same. They were my teachers. And to be here, it's just… I don't think even a dream. I [couldn't have] dreamt something like that to happen. And the good thing is it's a very positive situation. Scott is not sick, [he doesn't have a] a broken arm or something like that. It's very, very positive. It couldn't be better. So I'm very honored to be here, by these guys, and jam. We're having fun."

Added ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello: "Andreas locks in with the band like he was always here. So there's not a thought to playing; we don't have to worry. It's nice to go on stage and not have to worry. That's the last thing we wanted to do. And he's good, he's so locked in, even with the cues, the vocals — everything. Boom! It's ANTHRAX."

Ian and Pearl Aday, welcomed a son on June 19 at 10:19 a.m. Revel Young Ian, who came into the world three weeks early, weighed in at six pounds, nine ounces.

Ian previously stated that the choice to sit out the upcoming ANTHRAX shows "was a deeply personal one" but added that "becoming a father is the biggest, best thing that's ever happened to me and it made the decision relatively easy. My priority is with my wife and the birth of our first child."

Regarding how Kisser came to fill the temporary guitarist slot, Ian said, "We chose Andreas because we feel he can do the gig better than anyone. He has the fire, the attitude, and the crushing right hand to do the gig. I've played with Andreas at the Roadrunner 25th-anniversary show, and I've gotten up and played with SEPULTURA and we are kindred spirits. We both play every show like we're going to jail the next day, like it's the last show we'll ever play. He has what it takes and he has the experience and history to fucking bring it and make these ANTHRAX shows something special."
